Jim Floyd, a former long-time Florida law enforcement officer who also served as Gilchrist County sheriff, died Tuesday after an extended illness.
Floyd was elected Gilchrist County Sheriff in 1988 and served from 1989 to 1996 until he retired from the office. Prior to that, Floyd spent 20 years with the Florida Highway Patrol and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-62.
“Sheriff Floyd was well respected by his staff at GCSO, as well as the community, and will be missed,” said Sheriff Bobby Schultz and the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office from the office Facebook page.
During the years he lived and worked in Gilchrist County, Floyd was active in several civic organizations and community activities. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
