The City of Gainesville has canceled six meetings this week after the mayor and two commissioners tested positive for COVID-19.
City Manager Cynthia Curry sent an email on Saturday announcing the changes.
“We are all weary in this third year of the pandemic but let’s remember we are a resilient community,” Curry said in the email. “Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Stay safe.”
Mayor Lauren Poe announced on Friday that he’d tested positive, and Commissioners Harvey Ward and David Arreola have since made similar announcements.
The commission is still scheduled to meet on Thursday for its regular meeting, but two affordable housing workshops have been postponed to June.
Mayor Lauren Poe zoomed into the commission’s meeting on Thursday, and commissioners can still participate virtually. However Rossana Passaniti, Gainesville’s public information officer, said an in-person quorum will be needed for the regular meeting.
She also said in an email that city staff continue to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and haven’t taken any additional measures or changed practices.
