GFR responds to 2-car crash in Gainesville

Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) responded Monday afternoon to a two-car crash with injuries near the intersection of SW 11th Street and 2nd Avenue. The Combined Communications Center (CCC) received several 911 calls regarding the crash with one person entrapped inside of a vehicle.

GFR units Engine 3, Ladder Truck 1, Squad 3, and District 1 responded along with Alachua County Fire Rescue 35. GFR unit, Squad 3 arrived on the scene within three minutes of being dispatched and confirmed that one male driver entrapped inside of a pickup truck that sustained substantial damage from being hit by a dump truck.

Ladder Truck 1 arrived on the scene, and began extricating the driver out of the vehicle, while GFR Engine 3 Lieutenant Jeffery Jamison attended to the patient from inside of the vehicle.

District 1 Chief Cary Williams arrived on the scene and established incident command. The patient was extricated from the vehicle within eight minutes after the first GFR unit arrived on the scene. The patient was trauma alerted and transported to Shands by ACFR Rescue 35 in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the dump truck was treated on the scene for minor injuries by GFR Squad 3, but refused transport. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Gainesville Police Department.

Gainesville Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to drive safely, obey all traffic laws, including the posted speed limits, and always wear your seatbelts.
