Hawthorne man dies when pickup overturns off State Road 20

A 72-year-old Hawthorne man died Friday morning when his pickup veered off State Road 20, collided with a guardrail and overturned in the median.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was driving east on SR 20 at 10:58 a.m. near SE 169^th Street east of Hawthorne on the inside lane at a high rate of speed when his pickup veered off the road.

The driver lost control of the GMC pickup, collided with a guardrail in the median and overturned in the median.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead on scene. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
