The High Springs Police Department (HSPD) announced the arrest of the man investigators say is responsible for robbing Caring Pharmacy twice in less than a year.
Police responded to armed robbery service calls in January 2020 and February 2021. Both times the suspect fit a similar description.
On Friday the HSPD said that man is Robert Joseph Canciglia, 62, of Fort White. According to an HSPD press release, investigators obtained a warrant from the Eighth Judicial Circuit and executed it with the help of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
“I am proud of the way that our agency investigated this case, and I am thankful for the collaboration and support from our law enforcement partners. That includes the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office,” said Antoine Sheppard, Chief of Police. “A violent offender has removed from our streets, and our community is safer due to those actions.”
Canciglia is currently in the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Jail and will await extradition to Alachua County for the existing charges, which include robbery with a firearm.
Despite the arrest, HSPD is still looking for additional information about the robberies. Anyone with information should contact HSPD Detective Tracy Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (352) 955-1818. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (352)-372-STOP.
