According to the National Weather Service (NWS), North Central Florida is expected to have heat index temperatures ranging from 105 to 110 degrees over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The temperatures in the region are forecasted for the mid 90s, but the humidity level will be in the low to mid 70% range, which will increase the heat index between 105-110 degrees.
The NWS out of Jacksonville reports that the heat will last through Wednesday and recommends the following precautionary actions:
- Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
- If you work or spend time outside, when possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
- To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location and call 911 for emergency situations.Â
