An illegal stop sign was removed on Friday at the intersection of SW 52nd Street and 18th Place near the Cabana Beach Apartments.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, the sign was removed by the Gainesville Public Works Department. The sign reportedly caused traffic disruptions, confusion among motorists and unsafe driving behaviors.

GPD is requesting the public’s help to find who erected the stop sign.

“The removal of the unauthorized stop sign was necessary to maintain clarity and ensure the safety of drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians,” said GPD spokesperson Brandon Hatzel. “We’re investigating this incident and ask for the assistance of the community.”

Anyone with information about who may have installed the stop sign or related activity at this location is asked to contact the GPD at 352-393-7500.
