Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies arrested a Chiefland man for attempted murder and aggravated battery following a Wednesday incident.

LCSO deputies and detectives responded to a location near the intersection of NW 137 Court and County Road 320 around 5 p.m. and arrested Jeffrey Madden, 41, after a reported shooting, according to an LCSO release.

The string of events started when a female residing in the Manatee Farms subdivision west of U.S. Highway 19 off of CR 320 called 911 and reported a suspicious man in her yard. When she confronted the man, she said he made disturbing comments to her. She then followed the suspicious man in her vehicle as he departed the subdivision, and she called her brother, Madden.

Madden located his sister, who was still following the suspicious man, and rammed his truck into the man’s vehicle, causing him to crash. According to the report, witness testimony said Madden exited his truck armed with a handgun and shot at the suspicious male.

LCSO first responders took Madden into custody and aided the victim—identified as a 65-year-old man from Atlantic Beach—who was transported to the hospital and reportedly suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.

LCSO detectives interviewed Madden and booked him into the Levy County Detention Center on one count of attempted felony murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm. His bond was set at $1.5 million.

The investigation is ongoing and LCSO requests anyone with information related to the case to contact detective Rob Bowers at 352-486-5111 ext. 266 or detective Ryan Sullivan at 352-486-511 ext. 360. Anonymous tips may be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 877-349-8477.
