Levy, Dixie, and Gilchrist counties have pushed back their switch to the state vaccine registration system while the state finishes its onboarding process, according to David Peaton with Levy County Emergency Management.
At 1 p.m. today Levy County reopened its weekly registration process for first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and simultaneously announced the state system wasn’t ready yet.
For Levy County residents, that means continuing to call the same local number to schedule an appointment: 352-486-5300.
In Dixie County, the number to call is 352-498-1360. Gilchrist residents can schedule an appointment by calling 352-463-3120.
Peaton told Mainstreet Daily News that Levy received 500 doses of the vaccine this week, so the county plans to hold another drive-thru event Wednesday in Williston.
On Friday Levy County held its first drive-thru event in a field next to Williston’s Horseman’s Park. Peaton said the event went off without a hitch: “Very, very smooth. No issues at all.”
Like last week’s event, the Wednesday drive-thru event will be by appointment only for residents 65 and older.
Levy County expects phone lines to be busy as it schedules the 500 available appointment slots, so it requests patience from community members trying to get through via phone.
Calling for appointments is only needed for a first dose of the vaccine. Once someone obtains the first dose, health department personnel follow up to schedule the second dose at the appropriate time.
