Lake City man killed in Columbia County crash

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred at approximately 11:40 pm last night near the intersection of CR 131 and Young Place in Columbia County.

The driver, a 31-year-old Lake City man, was traveling south on CR 131 in a sport utility vehicle, when for an unknown reason left the roadway to the left and struck a culvert with its front causing the SUV to overturn, striking a tree with its right side. The SUV came to a final rest against a tree facing a northeasterly direction.

According to the FHP report, the driver died of injuries sustained in the crash.

It was the second severe crash on a roadway in Columbia County this week. 

Early Sunday morning, a sedan, driven by a 31-year-old Lake City man was traveling west on US-90. A pedestrian walked into the path of the vehicle, and the front of vehicle struck the pedestrian, a 36-year-old female from Fort White. The pedestrian was transported to UF Health of Gainesville and is in critical condition.
