Car going wrong way causes 2-vehicle fatal collision near GNV Airport

One person died and three were injured when a car traveling in the wrong lane hit another vehicle head-on early Sunday morning on NE 39th Avenue near the Gainesville Regional Airport.

According to Gainesville Police Department (GPD) spokesperson Brandon Hatzel, one vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes of State Road 222 (NE 39th Avenue) at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses, when it hit another vehicle driving westbound head-on.

The juvenile male in the right rear seat of the vehicle going west in the westbound lane died of his injuries while a female passenger in the left rear seat is in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle going in the correct direction was injured but stable.
