Mayor Jordan Marlowe announced via social media on March 17 that he will be declaring a State of Emergency for the City of Newberry.
“This afternoon, I will be declaring a State of Emergency,” he posted.
“Our City is as prepared as we could possibly be for all aspects of this situation. By declaring a State of Emergency though, our City Manager will have access to funds and be empowered to make the personnel shifts necessary to continue to keep our community ahead of this situation. Stay healthy everyone!”
Some local businesses and churches have remained open as usual and have made their comments about the COVID-19 pandemic on marquees along Newberry Road.
Newberry Church of Christ Pastor Jess Carter put up letters that read, “Available Free Sanitizer For the Soul Christ Prepaid.”
Carter said half of his congregation opted to stay home last Sunday because of their age and health circumstances.
The Quick Care Med clinic in Newberry has remained closed during the pandemic with no note to patients on the door and no return calls to messages left.
