
A 32-year-old Pahokee woman was killed and a 41-year-old Pahokee man was seriously injured on Thursday morning when their SUV crashed into a pickup truck pulling a trailer on US Highway 19 in Dixie County.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Pahokee man was driving an SUV southbound on US 19 near NW 521st Street at 11:25 a.m. when he failed to slow down for a pickup truck pulling a trailer that was hauling another pickup truck also traveling southbound on US 19, driven by a 43-year-old Orlando man.
The SUV collided with the rear of the trailer and lost control, crashing into a guardrail before overturning. Both the driver and passenger, neither of whom was wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the SUV.
Emergency responders pronounced the 32-year-old Pahokee woman, who was the passenger, dead on scene. The driver was flown to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious injuries.
The Orlando man driving the pickup sustained minor injuries.
