Semi hits, kills Gainesville teen walking on I-75

An 18-year-old Gainesville man was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer Saturday morning as he walked along Interstate 75.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 58-year-old Cocoa man was driving a tractor-trailer southbound near I-75 mile marker 380 at 8:26 a.m. when he reported to the FHP about damage on his truck he was unsure of.

Upon further investigation, FHP troopers discovered the Gainesville man was walking on I-75 during the night and was struck by the tractor-trailer.

Emergency responders declared the Gainesville man dead on scene.

He was a teenager yes with a mental disability. He had the mind of a 5 year old. He wondered off in the middle of the night. This is so sad.
