An average of 4.4 inches of rainfall fell over the weekend with parts of Dixie and Levy counties receiving more than six inches.

According to a Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) release sent Tuesday, 3 to 4 inches of rainfall fell in Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison, Suwannee and parts of Taylor counties.

The two-day period of precipitation from Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16-17, led to localized flooding with SRWMD gages showing water levels on the Santa Fe, Lamont, Aucilla and Three rivers, along with O’Leno and Worthington springs, at minor flood stage.

“Rainfall during the winter months is typically lower than other times of the year – the historic average for December is approximately 3.2 inches of rainfall Districtwide. However, the District is currently under an El Niño advisory, which typically means a wetter and cooler winter,” the release stated.
