On Tuesday, the Alachua County Public Works Department announced that it will be resurfacing SW 20th Avenue from the intersection of SW 34th Street almost 1.25 miles west to Hog Town Creek.
The $1.74 million project is being provided by the infrastructure surtax approved by Alachua County voters in 2022.
The resurfacing will occur between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to reduce daytime congestion. Workers will mill down the existing asphalt surface 1.5 inches and then resurface with 1.5 inches of asphalt for the new surface.
Preferred Materials, Inc. was awarded the contract, and the project is expected to be completed in early 2025. Drivers should expect delays while traveling on SW 20th Avenue for the next few months.
