A portion of SW 4th Avenue between SW 91st Street and SW 87th Way in Gainesville will be temporarily closed starting Monday, Jan. 12, to repair a sinkhole beneath the pedestrian path on the south side of the roadway.

The Alachua County Public Works Department will start work on the road, which had an emergency closure in November due to the sinkhole, and a detour will direct traffic around the closure, according to an Alachua County press release. Residents of the Shannon Woods subdivision exiting via SW 88th Street will only be able to travel east on SW 24th Avenue.

Drivers are advised to use caution, stay alert and follow the posted detour signs while maintaining safe speeds and following distances while traveling through the area. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan accordingly.
