The High Springs Police Department (HSPD) has announced the arrest of a teenager in connection with a fatal bat attack on Valentine’s Day.

A joint investigation between HSPD and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement led to the apprehension of Christopher Tyrone Knight, 16, of High Springs. An HSPD press release did not offer a motive for the attack but said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

On Feb. 14 officers were called to the scene of a backyard assault in the southeast area of the city. At the time police reported an unknown assailant had entered a yard and struck a 58-year-old male in the head, seriously injuring him.

HSPD has not released the name of the victim but on Wednesday said he later died of his injuries at a local hospital.

HSPD said it is holding Knight on a charge of murder.
