A train collided with two tractor-trailers on a railroad crossing Hawthorne Monday evening.
According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, units were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the collision.
One of the tractor-trailer drivers sustained an injured leg and emergency responders transported the driver to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
One of the tractor-trailers received minor damage while the other incurred heavy damage. The collision completely blocked the railway and intersection and led to a large diesel fuel tank leak. All hazards were eventually brought under control.
ACFR was assisted by crews from Gainesville Fire Rescue and Melrose and Windsor fire departments. The Environmental Protection Agency and CSX also responded to the scene.
