Today’s Rising Senior spotlight is on Davontis Clements of Gainesville High School.

Clements will participate in football and track and field for the Hurricanes during his senior year. He will play on both sides of the ball for GHS – at wide receiver, quarterback, cornerback, free safety and strong safety.

Last year as a junior on defense, Clements gave up no touchdowns and only eight catches. He has recorded a time of 4.65 in the 40 yard dash, with a bench press of 205 and a squat of 300 pounds, garnering him a number of offers to play at the next level.

His favorite high school sports moment was when his team was down against Trinity Christian and it was third down. The running back broke for a huge run, but Clements, who was playing corner back, had a huge chase down tackle, running from one side of the field to the other. On the next play, they forced a fumble which then led to the game winning drive to win the game.

Clements has set a few goals for his senior season. He wants to put up over 1,000 yards receiving, along with 1,500 All-purpose yards, and he wants to win a state championship. The ‘Canes will get a good test to start the year.  GHS, and first year coach Dock Pollard, will open up the regular season on Friday, August 21, at Ocala Vanguard.

Currently, Clements has offers from USF, and three other D3 schools, but he also has interest from Washington State, FAU, Coastal Carolina, Army, and Wake Forest.
