The Branford softball team will have to wait one more day to try and win its first state title in program history.

Tuesday’s Class 1A state championship game against Liberty County at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont was postponed due to weather.

The game will resume at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA).

Liberty Country was batting in the top of the fifth inning when the game was delayed due to lightning for a second time.

The Bulldogs had just scored a run on a squeeze bunt single by Gabriella Flowers to score Chamiya Williams for a 4-4 tie.

The Bucs, who defeated defending state champion Jay in Monday’s state semifinals, took a 4-2 lead in the third inning on a 2-RBI single by eighth grader Ashlee Combee.

Wednesday’s game will resume with two on and no outs for Liberty County in the top of the fifth inning.
