Today’s Rising Senior spotlight is on Keatan Brown of the Dixie County High School football team.

Brown will play fullback and linebacker for the Bears this fall. Last year as a junior, he finished with 250 yards rushing in just two games and averaged six yards per carry.

His favorite high school sports moment was rushing for over 200 yards in one game. In a loss against Newberry, Brown had 209 yards on 27 carries, an average of 7.7 yards per carry, and two touchdowns.

On defense he had 66 tackles and an interception.  Brown had a season-high 13 tackles against Mayo Lafayette and also recorded 10 tackles against Williston. His goal for his senior year is to get a scholarship to play football.

Last year, the Dixie County football team won its first six games before injuries took their toll. However, the Bears still made the Class 1A playoffs as a number three seed in Region 3 despite losing its final three regular season games.

Brown, a rising senior, is one of seven starters who return on defense from a team that held 1A playoff teams Trenton & Hawthorne to a total of 21 points.

Dixie County will be seeking its seventh state playoff appearance in the past eight years. The Bears are scheduled to open up the year against Taylor County (Perry) but the start date to the 2020 regular season is still to be determined.
