Buchholz advances to district semifinals

The Buchholz volleyball team rallied past Nease (Ponte Vedra), 3-1, in the Class 6A-District 2 Quarterfinals on Monday night to advance to Tuesday’s district semifinals.

The No. 4 seed Lady Bobcats (10-12) lost the first set against the No. 5 seed Panthers (8-14) but won the next three and advanced with a 22-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 win at home.

Buchholz (10-12) will play top seed Fletcher (Neptune Beach) at Nease in Tuesday’s district semifinals.

Dixie County (Cross City) was down 1-0 in its Rural District 6 quarterfinal game at home against Bell on Monday night.

The No. 5 seed Bulldogs (8-15) won the opening set, 25-21, but the No. 4 seed Bears rallied to win the next three sets 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-11.

Dixie County (11-12) will play host to top seed and last year’s state runner-up, Branford (22-3), on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the district semifinals.

Union County swept No. 6 seed Fort White 25-8, 25-9, 25-17 in the other quarterfinal.

The No. 3 seed Tigers (15-8) will play No. 2 seed Lafayette (Mayo) (16-3) at 5 p.m. in the first semifinal at Dixie County. Fort White’s season ended at 4-10.

In the Rural District 7 Quarterfinals, No. 4 seed Chiefland defeated No. 5 seed Bronson 25-19, 25-8, 25-14 at home. The Indians will play at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the district semifinals at top-seed Williston, which is seeking a district title in Coach Daniel Gutierrez’s first season.

Trenton, the No. 2 seed, swept No. 7 seed Wildwood, 25-5, 25-21, 25-12, and will host either No. 3 seed Cedar Key or No. 6 Hawthorne at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the other semifinal.
