Gainesville advances with win over New Smyrna; Santa Fe opens playoff campaign tonight

Last night the Gainesville volleyball team went on the road and kept its season alive with a 5-set win at New Smyrna Beach in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

GHS lost the opening set 25-17 but won the next two to take a 2-1 lead.  After the Barracudas (16-8) tied it up, the Hurricanes (12-7) won the fifth set, 15-12.

GHS will travel to Forest (Ocala) on Wednesday, Oct. 28, for the regional semifinals. The Wildcats (15-0), who defeated GHS in last week’s district championship, advanced with a sweep of South Lake (Groveland).
