- Katelyn Huber graduated from P.K. Yonge in 2025 as one of its most decorated golfers and excelled in high school tournaments consistently.

Katelyn Huber graduated from P.K. Yonge in 2025 as one of the most decorated golfers in school history.
She then took her talents across the street to the University of Florida. And that success has continued early in her college career.
On Sunday, the No. 7-ranked Florida women’s golf team finished one shot behind Mississippi State at the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Gators tied Arizona State for second at 1-under 851, while Mississippi State won the tournament at 850.
Huber, a sophomore, is helping the Gators in their fall season. She tied for second at 4-under par, two shots behind teammate Paula Francisco (207). She had three consecutive rounds of par or better (69-69-71), earning back-to-back runner-up outings to start the season. The sophomore now has eight top-10 finishes in 14 career tournaments.
The Gators opened the fall season by sweeping the Cougar Classic in Charleston on Sept. 7-8. Huber played a key role in the win, tying for second and continuing her strong play after earning All-SEC Freshman Team honors last spring. Teammate Jessica Guiser won the individual title.
Huber’s freshman season was impressive. She played in every tournament, recording six top-10 finishes, nine top-25 finishes and a 72.44 stroke average—the second-lowest by a freshman in UF program history.
She also won the Florida Amateur tournament, becoming the third straight Gator to win the event, reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball and made her professional tournament debut in July at the Epson Tour’s Four Winds Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. Huber opened with back-to-back 3-under-par 69s before struggling in the final round.
“I didn’t finish high, but it was definitely a learning experience,” Huber said. “It was cool too because I was born in Indiana, so that was an all-around good experience.”
Huber’s success with the Gators builds on an accomplished high school career with the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave.
Huber was named to the first two Mainstreet Daily News All-Area Golf teams in 2023 and 2024. She won the 1A-5 individual district titles each year by 17 shots as a junior and as a senior. She finished tied for fourth as a junior and tied for third as a senior in the regional tournament and also finished sixth as a junior and third as a senior at the Class 1A state tournament.
Huber says playing golf at P.K. Yonge was fun but also prepared her for college golf.
“The individual tournaments are more important at the high school level than the overall team finishes,” Huber said. “You play for the team, but how you do as an individual in golf can help take you to the next level.”
Huber played for girls golf coach and current Blue Wave athletics director Kelly Barrett.
“Coach Barrett was great and she got me into P.K.,” Huber said. “She made me a better person and motivated me to play better.”
Huber had more to say about her high school coach.
“I was her intern as well,” Huber said. “We bonded instantly and she was able to get me to calm down and excel as a golfer.”
In a 2024 interview with Mainstreet, Barrett had high praise for Huber.
“Katelyn’s impact on the P.K. Yonge golf team and Gainesville area golf is unmatched,” Barrett said. “Her competitive spirit brings out the best in everyone that she plays with, and though she always wants to win, she is gracious enough to help everyone around her get better. Katelyn will always be remembered as one of the best golfers to come out of the Gainesville area and we are proud to have her as a member of the Blue Wave family.”
Huber also grew up around golf as she lived at the now-closed Gainesville Country Club. It would appear Huber was always going to be a golfer.
When it came time for her to pick a college, growing up in Gainesville would have made becoming a Gator a no-brainer, but Huber says it wasn’t automatic.
“The goal was always to play college golf,” Huber said. “I had worked hard and sacrificed for 10 years to get to that level, and I wanted to look at other campuses, so I did.”
But eventually Huber signed up to stay home in Gainesville with the Gators. And following a solid freshman season at UF, her sophomore season is off to a fantastic start.
The fall season has three tournaments remaining before wrapping up in mid-October, with the winter/spring schedule beginning in January.
Huber also thinks Florida can improve on its third-place finish at the SEC Tournament and 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships last spring.
“This team has a long way to go, but I love the depth we have,” Huber said. “We are a very hungry team with a lot of personalities, but we showed in the first tournament we played (Cougar Classic) how deep we can be.”
From P.K. Yonge to UF, Katelyn Huber has shown with her success how good growing up with golf in Gainesville can be.
