- Bishop Kenny girls basketball team leads the all-classification regional rankings with a 19-2 record and 197 voting points.
- Bolles girls basketball is second with a 16-4 record and 192 points, winning their last five games.
- Tocoi Creek ranks third in the region and 17th overall in Florida after moving up one spot.
- Newberry girls, ranked sixth, hold a 15-1 record and will face No. 5 Williston in a redemption game Friday.
The Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) girls basketball team is still on top of the all-classification regional rankings.
However, the gap is closing.
The Class 4A Lady Crusaders (19-2) received seven of the 10 first-place votes to remain on top of The Prep Zone Power Poll for the fourth consecutive week.
They went 5-1 since the last ranking, including a 1-1 record at the MLK Tournament at Bishop Verot (Fort Myers) with a win against Howell North (St. Charles, MO), 64-31, and a 58-49 loss to 3A No. 7 and No. 28 overall in Florida Lincoln Park Academy (Fort Pierce).
They also had a 52-39 win against current No. 3 Tocoi Creek (St. Augustine), 52-39, and received 197 total voting points.
The Crusaders are ranked No. 11 overall in Florida and No. 2 in 4A in the latest Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) rankings.
Bolles (Jacksonville) received the other three first-place votes and 192 total voting points.
The Bulldogs (16-4), who are ranked No. 6 in Florida and No. 3 in Class 3A, went 5-0 with a 56-41 win against previous No. 4 Providence (Jacksonville), a 60-49 victory against No. 10 Ponte Vedra, and a 64-35 win against previous No. 12 Creekside (St. Johns).
The two rivals will get to settle the dispute over who is No. 1 at 7 p.m. on Thursday when Bolles hosts Bishop Kenny.
Class 6A Tocoi Creek (St. Augustine) moved up one spot to No. 3.
The Toros, who lost at top-ranked Bishop Kenny, 52-39, on Jan. 15, are ranked No. 17 overall in Florida and No. 3 in 6A.
Defending Rural state champion Wildwood (11-3) and current Rural No. 1 Williston (13-2) round out the top five.
The No. 5 Red Devils are one of six teams in the Mainstreet Daily News coverage area who are either ranked or receiving votes.
Class 3A Newberry, whose only loss was at Williston, 92-73, on Dec. 12, leads off the second five at No. 6. The Lady Panthers (15-1) will get a shot at redemption this Friday with a home game against the Lady Red Devils.
Buchholz is up three spots to No. 16.
The Lady Bobcats (14-5) went 6-1 since the previous ranking. Their only loss was against Class 4A No. 6 and No. 60 overall Rickards (Tallahassee), 44-40.
Fort White, GHS and Chiefland are receiving votes.
The rest of the top 10 includes No. 7 Providence (Jacksonville), defending 5A state champion New Smyrna Beach, Orange Park and Ponte Vedra.
North Florida Educational Institute (Jacksonville) is new to the rankings at No. 20, despite a losing record.
The Fighting Eagles (9-12), who are ranked No. 7 in 1A, have a 15.84 strength of schedule.
The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, girls basketball, boys basketball, softball & baseball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on by sportswriters and sportscasters, and it is powered by Be Well Fitness.
