C.J. Ingram doesn’t lose much.

He is 25-0 as Hawthorne’s starting quarterback with two state titles, and he just helped lead the Hornets boys basketball team to its third straight win to open the season last week following a victory against a county rival.

Ingram has been named the Pavlik Orthodontics Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 18 after averaging a double-double with 26 points and 11.5 rebounds in a pair of wins at Bradford (Starke) and at P.K. Yonge.

The junior shot 67.4% from the floor and averaged 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals with just one turnover in the two games.

Last Thursday, Ingram single-handily outscored Bradford with 22 points and made more field goals than the Tornadoes in a 58-18 win on the road last Tuesday.

He shot 83% from the floor (10-of-12), including 2-of-2 from behind the arc, and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

He added four assists and three steals. The junior finished with zero turnovers.

“CJ Ingram is a veteran leader who has played a lot of basketball here,” Hawthorne coach Greg Bowie said about Ingram in the preseason. “He’s been contributing since middle school. He knows the expectations and scheme which makes him a coach on the floor. Last season as sophomore he led us in almost every statistical category.”

On Friday, Ingram scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. He scored 19 of his game-high 30 in the second half as the Hornets won at P.K. Yonge, 69-59, to move to 3-0.

“He does it in different ways,” Bowie said following the game. “A couple of 3s went down tonight, attacking the rim, mid-range a couple of times. He was baseline. Some of the guards found him down there. We move him around a lot so teams can’t really focus on him at one position. He can score from all over the floor.”

Ingram was 11-of-19 from the floor (58%) and he made 3-of-6 from 3-point range.

His five offensive rebounds led both teams and he added three assists, two steals, and one block and only had one turnover.

Ingram becomes the 18th athlete to be selected for the weekly award.

Last week’s winner was Brandy Whitfield of the Newberry girls basketball team.

The 5’5 sophomore point guard helped lead the Class 1A Lady Panthers to a 3-0 week by averaging 18.7 points, five rebounds, five assists, and 5.7 steals per game.

Other winners include Hawthorne running back Keenon Johnson, Hawthorne linebacker Andrew Zock, Buchholz running back Quinton Cutler, Buchholz boys cross country state champion Riley Smith, Gainesville swimmer Ava Fuller, who won an individual state title, P.K. Yonge swimmer Lillie Nesty, who won two individual state titles, Santa Fe (Alachua) volleyball player Jordan Czaplewski, Williston running back Jace McDonald, Nash Lantinen of the St. Francis Catholic Academy football team, Oak Hall setter/right side hitter Cassidy McDonald, Oak Hall quarterback Dakota Brower, GHS quarterback Kane Smith, Buchholz football player Myles Graham, Hawthorne wide receiver Alvon Isaac, Chiefland running back Osten Jones, and Newberry volleyball player Hailey Tharp.
