Friday Night Game of the Week: Newberry at Hawthorne
Tonight at 7:30 the Hawthorne Hornets host the Newberry Panthers in a rematch of last year’s game won by Newberry in overtime. Both teams made the state playoffs last year and each team has its share of stars.
Quarterback Makai Johnson and 1,000 yard running back Kobe Delima are back for their senior season at Newberry, while Dre Lawrence, Jayquan Williams, and Thurman Mills lead a talented Hawthorne team.
You can listen to tonight’s game right here on 106.9 I Am Country, beginning with our pregame at 7 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
PK Yonge at Trenton
P.K. Yonge, one of a half a dozen Alachua County teams in action, will travel to Trenton tonight. The Blue Wave return eight starters on offense and seven on defense from last year’s 10-2 team.
Trenton quarterback Tyler Perry had a breakout sophomore season as he threw for 1,101 yards with 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions and also rushed for an area-best 1,969 yards on 251 attempts with 18 scores.
Bronson at Ocala Christian Academy
Bronson is at home against Ocala Christian Academy. It’s the debut of Eagles’ head football coach Russell Holley. Last year, Holley was the defensive coordinator for Bronson, which defeated OCA to snap a 19-game losing streak en route to a 4-6 record.
Williston at Branford
Williston, which returns five starters on offense and six on defense, will travel to Branford tonight. Bell will host Branford next week, while Dixie County will travel to Union County next Friday for their season openers.
Update on Chiefland schedule
Chiefland, which had postponed its games until September the 25th, has announced that it has picked up a game. The Indians will travel to Perry to play Taylor County on Friday, Sept. 18.
