Newberry upsets Sneads; takes Silver Championship at River City Classic

On Saturday, the Newberry Panthers volleyball team upset seven-time defending 1A state champion Sneads 25-20, 25-15, to win the Silver Championship at the River City Classic in Jacksonville. 

That’s the first loss by Sneads to a 1A school since November 10th, 2012.

Senior Grace Oelrich led Newberry with 12 kills, four aces, and two blocks.  Junior MyKenzie Tiller had nine digs and four kills and senior setter Sarah Miller dished out 21 assists with eight digs.

The Panthers went 4-1 in the tournament, and also defeated Class 4A Jacksonville Bolles.

Newberry is 11-3 on the season, and faces Seven Rivers Christian from LeCanto on Tuesday at home. The match is scheduled to start at 7 pm.
