The Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) girls basketball team has been on top of the regional all-classification rankings in 2026.
Until now.
Rival Bolles (Jacksonville), which was previously ranked No. 2, defeated the Crusaders in a head-to-head matchup, 47-39, on Jan. 22, and ascended to the top spot of The Prep Zone Power Poll.
Both teams were district champions, but the Bulldogs settled the debate on the floor.
They received seven of the nine first-place votes following their 17th consecutive victory, a 59-25 win, against previously receiving votes (RV) Andrew Jackson (Jacksonville) in the FHSAA Class 3A-District 4 championship game.
Bolles (22-4), which is the No. 1 seed in 3A-Region 1, will host Bradford (Starke) in Friday’s quarterfinals. The visiting Tornadoes (16-9) upset previous No. 6 Newberry, 64-62, on the road in the 3A-District 3 championship game to earn an at-large bid.
Bishop Kenny, which received the other two first-place votes, defeated Menendez (St. Augustine), 71-20, in the 4A-District 4 championship game. The Crusaders (23-4), who flipped with Bolles in the rankings, are the No. 1 seed in 4A-Region 1 and will host No. 8 seed Godby (Tallahassee) (11-10).
Tocoi Creek (St. Augustine) remained No. 3.
The Toros (21-6) defeated previous No. 16 Buchholz, 69-34, in the 6A-District 3 championship game. They are the No. 1 seed in 6A-Region 1 and will host No. 8 seed Oakleaf (Orange Park) (16-11), which won the 6A-District 2 title and received votes.
Previous No. 5 Williston moved up one spot to No. 4 following a 72-62 win against previous No. 3 Wildwood in the Rural District 7 championship game.
The Red Devils (18-2), have won 14 in a row, are the No. 1 seed in Rural-Region 4 and will host unbeaten and Rural District 8 champion Moore Haven (25-0) in Friday’s regional semifinals, while Wildwood (14-5), which dropped to sixth, is the No. 2 seed in Region 4 and will host No. 3 seed Chiefland (22-3).
Rounding out the top five is Providence (Jacksonville), which moved up two spots to No. 5.
The Class 2A-District 3 champion Stallions (19-5) defeated previous No. 11 San Jose Prep (Jacksonville), 65-45, in the championship game. They have won seven in a row, including a 65-61 win at home against No. 3 Tocoi Creek on Jan. 27.
Wildwood leads off the second five at No. 6, followed by district champions Ponte Vedra (21-6) and Orange Park (20-7), who are tied for No. 7, New Smyrna Beach (17-8), and Newberry (19-4) in the top 10.
In addition to Williston and Newberry, there are four other teams in the Mainstreet coverage area who are ranked or receiving votes.
Buchholz (19-7), which is ranked 18th, received an at-large bid. The Lady Bobcats (19-7) are the No. 5 seed in 6A-Region 1 and will travel to No. 4 seed Lake Howell (Winter Park) (22-5).
Fort White moved into the rankings at No. 20.
The Indians (16-9) defeated Taylor County (Perry), 64-30, in the Rural District 6 championship game. They are the No. 2 seed in Rural-Region 3 and will host No. 3 seed Madison County (12-7).
Gainesville (12-9), which won the 5A-District 2 title, and Bradford are receiving votes.
Class 6A-District 2 runners-up Nease (Ponte Vedra) (14-11) dropped out of the rankings but is receiving votes.
The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, girls basketball, boys basketball, softball & baseball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on by sportswriters and sportscasters, and it is powered by Be Well Fitness.
