Senior Spotlight: Lewis’ live bat led Columbia to a 9-3 start in 2020

Today’s senior spotlight is on Caroline Lewis of the Columbia (Lake City) softball team.

Lewis was a career .359 hitter with 60 hits, 49 runs scored, and 37 runs driven in 77 games played. Last year as a junior, she was named a second team All-Area selection by the Gainesville Sun after batting .302 with three doubles and nine runs driven in.

Caroline Lewis of Columbia (Lake City) High School.

Her most memorable softball moment was a home win that year against West Nassau (Callahan), one of their biggest competitors. It was the last inning and the Warriors had the tying run at third and the winning run at second with two outs. Lewis made a diving catch in center field to take away a hit and preserve the victory. The fans were all on their feet and the team went running towards her. She said the feeling was “indescribable.”

Lewis was one of five seniors for the Columbia softball team. Her fourth year with the Tigers was off to a blistering start. She was batting .667 with a team-leading 18 hits in only 27 at bats. She had a team-leading four doubles for the 9-3 Tigers, including a triple against Sebastian River in early March. She also had 11 runs driven in, was second on the team with 13 runs scored, and was a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases.

Lewis will further her education at the University of Florida where she will major in Business Management.
