Today’s senior spotlight is DJ Murry of the West Port boys basketball team in Ocala. Murry finished out his Wolf Pack career as the 4th all-time leading scorer in school history with 945 points. He had 473 points this past season, which is 3rd all-time. The first team All-County selection averaged 18.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game his senior year. In the classroom, Murry was a dual enrollment student with a 3.6 GPA. He made the College of Central Florida’s Dean’s List.
Murry finished with 10 double-doubles, but his two biggest games came in December. He had a season-high 31 points against Dunnellon and grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds against Wiregrass Ranch. His favorite sports moment was beating Orange City University to make it out of the first round of districts for the first time in his high school career. His favorite quote from head coach John Bauman was, “Have a Next Play Mentality.” DJ Murry will play college basketball at Stetson University in Deland and he will major in Law to become a Criminal Defense Attorney.
