Last night the Williston softball team cruised to a 14-4 win in five innings against Class 6A Buchholz of Gainesville.  The host Red Devils scored 13 runs in the first three innings, finished with 12 hits, and took advantage of six Buchholz errors.

Senior Miranda Geiger had a pair of hits, including a double, and she drove in a pair of runs.  Freshman Raegan Geiger had a pair of hits, including a triple.  Senior Kynnedi Williams also had a pair of hits, including a double.  Freshman Olivia Davis drove in two runs with a triple in the third for the Red Devils, and junior Jade Nettles also drove in two runs.

Freshman pitcher Karley Jerrels pitched all five innings for Williston and picked up the win.  Williston, which improved to 4-3 on the season, hosts Starke Bradford tonight at 6:30.

Also tonight, the Trenton softball team, which is ranked No. 5 in the country in the MaxPreps Xcellent25, travels to Chiefland for a Class 1A-District 7 game.

Cancellations

Yesterday the Marion County Public School District made a decision to cancel sports and extra-curricular activities through March the 24th because of safety concerns related to the corona virus. That affected one Tri-County area team on Thursday night as Williston’s home baseball game against North Marion was canceled.

Today, the Alachua County Public School District cancelled all extra-curricular activities beginning Monday, and lasting until March 31st.

Trenton will travel to Newberry tonight at 7 for a Class 1A-District 7 game.  The Tigers have gotten off to a slow start offensively with just a .198 batting average.  Yet, they are only two games under .500 and are coming off a win against defending 1A state champion Williston.  Senior Wyatt Langford leads the team with a .385 average.  The University of Florida signee has both homeruns for the Tigers.

Trenton will also be in action on Saturday afternoon at 4 at Orangewood Christian in Maitland in the second meeting of the season.  The Rams defeated the Tigers, 6-5, on March the 2nd

With tonight’s game against North Marion being cancelled, the Gainesville Hurricane’s baseball team will now head to Starke to take on Bradford, and Santa Fe’s baseball game on March 24th at North Marion has been tentatively moved to March 26th at 6:30.  The Raiders game with Buchholz next week will no longer be played at Santa Fe College. The location of the game has yet to be determined
