Today’s senior spotlight is on Bailey Tucker of Buchholz High School.

Tucker ran cross country and track for the Bobcats. This past fall he received a Meldon Law Athlete of the week scholarship for outstanding efforts in cross country. He was named to the Gainesville Sun’s All-Area second team and ran a season-best 17:14.00 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational.

Tucker was one of several seniors for the Buchholz track team. His 4×800 relay team was named first team All-Area by the Gainesville Sun last year after finishing 3rd at the District 1 tournament, 7th at Region 1-4A, and 22nd at the Class 4A state meet.

This past March, the Bobcats continued their dominance in Alachua County by claiming their fifth straight county title. Tucker was a likely participant at this year’s state track meet. He had posted a time of 1:58 in the 800 meter.

He also excelled in the classroom. Tucker was a National Merit Scholar who carried a 4.8 GPA. His future plans are to attend the University of Chicago.
