Gas prices in Gainesville and statewide dipped an average of 5 cents per gallon since last Monday while nationally the price dropped one cent.
According to AAA data released on Monday, gas prices continue to decline from the record high national average of $4.33 on March 11. For the second consecutive week, the cost for a barrel of oil remains at $110.
The AAA reported that domestically the gas demand defied seasonal trends by dropping, which could be attributed to consumers changing their driving habits.
The prices dropped 5 cents both in Gainesville and statewide in the past week from $4.17 on March 21 to $4.12 on Monday.
“The global oil market reflects the volatility caused by the war in Ukraine grinding onward,” said AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross in the weekly release. “And with oil prices refusing to fall, the price at the pump is likewise meeting resistance at dropping further.”
AAA shows Florida is ranked 24th in the nation for average gas cost. The state record high soared to $4.35 on March 10.
The average price per gallon last year at this time statewide was $2.88.

- $3.99 at Sunoco, 528 NW 8th Ave., Gainesville
- $3.99 at Chevron, 1510 S. Main St., Gainesville
- $3.99 at Circle K, 3901 SW Archer Rd., Gainesville
- $3.99 at Circle K, 4030 SW 13th St., Gainesville
According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) in the AAA release, total domestic gasoline stocks fell by 3 million barrels of crude oil (bbl) to 238 million bbl last week. Gasoline demand decreased from 8.94 million barrels per day (b/d) to 8.63 million b/d. The data indicates if oil prices continue to rise, gas prices will follow.
Today’s national average for a gallon of gas is $4.24, which is one cent less than a week ago, 63 cents more than a month ago, and $1.38 more than a year ago.
