The incident started on Dec. 9, 2022, around 6:30 p.m., when APD and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Combined Communications Center received multiple reports of gunfire at One 51 Apartments, located at 15139 NW 150th Rd., in Alachua.

Officers arrived and discovered Robinson near building 15139 with a gunshot wound to his left side. Emergency responders transported him to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he died from his wound.

Calhoun then contacted 911 shortly after and stated he had been shot. He was found in an adjacent pasture suffering from a gunshot wound to his armpit area and was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition. He was released a few days later.

APD’s Criminal Investigation Division discovered that the shootings stemmed from a drug transaction that turned violent. APD detectives identified Calhoun as the primary aggressor and arrested him on Dec. 22, 2022.

Calhoun was initially charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm/ammunition by a convicted felon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charges were later elevated to fire-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm.

On March 21, 2023, APD arrested a second suspect in the shooting of Robinson when they apprehended Franklin George Richardson of Alachua. Richardson had given Calhoun a ride to the location of the shooting.

Richardson was charged with accessory to murder after the fact and conspiracy to purchase a controlled substance.

According to the APD, Richardson took a plea deal for marijuana position and the murder charge was dropped by the State Attorney’s Office. He was sentenced to two years in prison and was released in January.

Good.
If the residents of problematic areas/neighborhoods of illicit drugs, illegal guns and violence took a stronger stance of “no tolerance”, then perhaps such incidents would be less frequent.
If you’re not part of the solution then you’re a part of the problem.
