One student was stabbed during an altercation at Santa Fe High School (SFHS) in Alachua on Tuesday afternoon.
According to an Alachua Police Department (APD) release, the incident occurred around 12:21 p.m. when the SFHS resource officers, assisted by APD patrol officers, responded to the report of a fight between students on campus.
Two students were allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation, according to the APD. During the fight, one student produced a five-inch pocket knife and stabbed the victim three times in the back.
The victim was taken to the school nurse and transported by emergency responders to a nearby hospital. The student is listed in critical but stable condition.
The suspect, Christopher David Teague, 18, was taken into custody by the school resource officer and is being charged as an adult with aggravated battery, possession of a weapon on school property and disturbing the peace/interfering with school administration functions. He is being held in the Alachua County Jail.
SFHS was placed on lockdown after the incident, which was lifted soon after, for cautionary purposes.
