Gainesville Police arrested a 16-year-old on Sunday in connection with a Feb. 16 homicide at SW 26th Terrace.
According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) social media post, officers located Elijah Moore around 12:32 a.m. on March 5 in the 900 block of E. University Ave.
Several officers responded and navigated their way through a crowd to apprehend Moore. When officers commanded Moore to lie down, a loaded Glock 26 handgun fell out of the suspect’s jacket pocket. A later teletype query showed that the gun was stolen in 2020 from Lake City.
The original incident took place on Feb. 16 in an apartment at 3120 26th Terrace where the victim was shot in the head and later died at the hospital. On Feb. 23, GPD detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Moore and released a BOLO for the suspect.
Moore is being charged with second-degree murder, grand theft of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. He is being held without bail at the Alachua County Jail.
