Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) students were recently recognized for their performance on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams this year.

According to an ACPS press release, 961 students received at least one recognition from the College Board, which administers the AP program nationwide. Of those, 92 students earned multiple honors.

“Alachua County Public School students continue to prove that they are among the top performers in the nation,” ACPS Interim Superintendent Kamela Patton said in the release. “Their success is a tribute to high-quality education offered in this district and their own hard work and commitment to their studies.”

For the 2024-25 school year, 943 students were named either AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honors or AP Scholars with Distinction.

The release stated that 403 students received the highest award of AP Scholar with Distinction, meaning they earned an average score of at least 3.5 on all their AP exams and passed at least five exams.

A total of 139 students were recognized as AP Scholars with Honors, the release said, earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams and getting scores of 3 or higher on four of the exams.

Additionally, 410 students were named AP Scholars for earning scores of 3 or higher on three AP exams, the release said.

Each one of the district’s high schools had at least one AP Scholar this year, the release said, with six out of the seven schools seeing students receive AP Scholar with Honors and AP Scholar with Distinction awards.

The College Board also honored 61 ACPS students for earning the AP Capstone Diploma and another 39 who received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.

According to the release, to receive the AP Capstone Diploma, students need to earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research and four additional AP exams.

For the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, students must receive scores of 3 or higher on both the Seminar and Research exams, the release said.

District officials said the number of students recognized for their performance on AP exams is particularly significant given many of the district’s high-achieving students are taking the equally rigorous Cambridge and International Baccalaureate exams in place of AP exams.

In addition to the recognition for their performance on AP exams, ACPS students were also recently honored for earning 200 perfect scores on state assessments this past spring.
