Car runs red light, injures 2 in Live Oak

A driver ran a red light in downtown Live Oak on Saturday seriously injuring himself and another driver.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 30-year-old Live Oak man driving a 2010 Toyota Camry was traveling west on US Highway 90 around 6:45 p.m. when he failed to stop at a red light at the US Highway 129 intersection. The Camry struck the left side of a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 38-year-old Live Oak man as the van was attempting to proceed south through the intersection.

After the initial collision, the Camry traveled off the road where it struck a traffic control box and a building on the southwest corner of the intersection.

Both drivers are in serious condition, according to the report.

Law enforcement cited the Camry driver with failure to stop for a red light, driving without using a seatbelt, driving with a suspended driver’s license and reckless driving.
