In his first ever campaign, Jackson Youmas won Alachua’s election for City Commission Seat 3 on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Dayna Williams and Planning and Zoning Board Member Bill Menadier.

Mayor Walter Welch called the election during the Board of Canvasser’s meeting after Youmas secured over half the votes.

The CVS store manager of over 20 years earned 52% of the more than 1,600 votes cast across the three precincts and candidates to serve a three-year term on the commission dais.

Youmas’s votes totaled 833 to defeat Williams, who earned 463 votes, and Menadier’s 310. Williams has served on the commission since 2018, with two terms as vice mayor.

“I am not a career politician. I am a father, a healthcare professional and your neighbor,” Youmas told Mainstreet before the election. “I’m running because the soul of Alachua is worth fighting for and it deserves someone at City Hall who actually stands up for it.”

The following list is a breakdown of the votes for each candidate per precinct. The city will audit Precinct 3, Legacy Park Multipurpose Center, Wednesday morning and adjust results accordingly.
