One of the region’s largest arts festivals returns this weekend with art and artists, music, food and community at the 54th annual Santa Fe College Spring Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12, in Gainesville.
Festival hours for the free event are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at 3000 NW 83rd St.
The community is invited to explore more than 120 artists’ booths, student artists, musical and dance performances, children’s activities and even a train ride to the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo, which is offering free admission during the festival.
This year’s poster artist is Florida native Veronica Steiner. This wildlife surrealist combines Florida-based fauna and flora with a passion to protect the Sunshine State. Her portrait of Swallow-tailed Kites graces this year’s poster.
Spring Arts Festival will also feature an artist-in-residence, Elena Ohlander of Jacksonville, who will create a mural over the course of the two-day event that will become a feature of the college’s significant art collection. This internationally featured mixed-media artist said “there is a whimsy, curiosity and cultural references” driving her work.

“Artists and craftspeople from across the country and around the world will highlight their talents in mediums including painting, watercolor, sculpture, photography, wood, jewelry, glass, ceramics and more,” said SF Director of Cultural Affairs Kyle Novak in the press release. “As we prepare for the 54th Annual Spring Arts Festival, we’re so excited to continue to share and grow the legacy of this incredible event.”
The event features juried artists competing for cash and prizes, community artists and numerous highly talented student artists. In addition, there will be two days of curated musical performances on two stages, as well as children’s activities, including a highly popular treasure hunt.
During the event, participants can also attend the SF Teaching Zoo and the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium, both ticketed venues.
Finally, everyone can find their favorites in the Food Truck Court, which will feature regional and international cuisines.
Free parking will be available on the Santa Fe College Campus and the Gainesville Regional Transit System will provide free buses on festival weekend.
