The Acrosstown Reparatory Theatre (ART) will perform “Bee-luther-hatchee” starting Friday.
The play will start at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays from Sept. 13-29 at 3501 SW 2nd Ave., Ste. O (Creekside Mall) in Gainesville.
According to the ART release, “Bee-luther-hatchee,” written by Thomas Gibbons and directed by Cristina Palacio, is a play based on, “Shelita Burns, an African-American editor, publishes Bee-luther-hatchee, the autobiography of a reclusive 72-year-old black woman named Libby Price. Shelita has never met Libby, and when the book wins a prestigious award, she decides to deliver it to her in person. To her profound shock, the actual author of the book is a white man named Sean Leonard. Furious and resentful, Shelita accuses Sean of perpetrating a hoax, while he defends the book as a truthful work of imagination.”
Tickets are $25 for the general public with a $5 discount for seniors (55+), teachers, students, first responders, veterans and military.
