Local artists are invited to submit original artwork for consideration as part of the new “Arts in the County Administration Building Program,” an initiative established by the Alachua County Commission to showcase local creative talent in county government spaces.

The program will allow artists to temporarily loan artwork for public display in prominent areas of the county’s administration building, located at 12 SE 1st St. in Gainesville. The pieces selected may be displayed for approximately three months.

Artists working in a variety of media are encouraged to apply, including digital art, ceramics, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and other visual art forms. According to a press release, artwork selected for display may be photographed and reproduced in county publications and promotional materials related to the program. It may be displayed in televised County Commission meetings when shown in public meeting spaces.

“This program highlights the strength of our local arts community while enhancing public spaces within county government,” said County Commission Chair Ken Cornell in a press release. “It reflects Alachua County’s continued commitment to supporting the arts and local artists.”

Local artists must complete the required application and execute a Public Art Loan and Display Agreement to participate. Artists are responsible for delivery, installation coordination and removal of artwork, along with the insurance and maintenance during the display period. Submissions are reviewed by the Alachua County Arts Council and approved by the County Commission.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and must include a completed application form, an executed agreement and a color photograph of the artwork being submitted.

The application form and agreement are available online
