Alachua’s Legacy Park will be a one-stop shop on Saturday for school supplies and health testing with the Alachua Police Department’s Back 2 School giveaway event and the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute’s Community Health Day.
From 9 a.m. to noon, Alachua police will give away free backpacks and school supplies at the park (15400 Peggy Rd., Alachua).
Children must be present to get a backpack and will also receive a voucher for one free kids’ pizza from Blaze Pizza. Families can also enjoy free food, drinks and fingerprinting during the event.
During a 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. window, the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute and WellFlorida Council Inc. will host the health fair.
Medical staff will provide CPR demonstrations, as well as reduced-cost mammograms, blood pressure checks and blood draws, testing for prostate issues such as cancer, and give away free car seats and $100 Visa gift cards.
Anyone is welcome to sign up for testing but must reserve an appointment by calling 352-740-4667.
