The Cedar Key Food Pantry will unveil its newly acquired refrigerated food trailer on Thursday morning.
The food trailer will depart at 10 a.m. from the Cedar Key Food Pantry (11912 State Road 24), and there will be a procession down 1st Street onto Dock Street and finishing its route in the historic district.
From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a public showcase and open house in front of the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce at 450 2nd Street, allowing residents to see the new trailer in action before it transitions to a stationary open house. The food trailer was acquired with funds provided by the United Way of North Central Florida.
According to the release, the food trailer marks a significant milestone in Cedar Key Food Pantry’s ability to provide nutritious food to local families and the acquisition of the specialized vehicle will help in the pantry’s logistics, allowing for safe transport and storage of temperature-sensitive items, such as dairy, proteins and fresh produce.
“Watching this truck roll down Dock Street is a victory for our entire community,” said Sue Colson, director of the Cedar Key Food Pantry, in the release. “Thanks to the United Way of North Central Florida, we now have the mobile infrastructure to rescue more fresh food and deliver it directly to those who need it most.”
