The city of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces and Public Places program and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will host a Community Information Session to discuss improvements for Tom Petty Park.

The session is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, at the Library Partnership Branch (912 NE 16th Ave.) in Gainesville.

Kimley-Horn Gainesville, engineers of the park’s upcoming improvements, will present at the meeting.

The improvements to the park will include replacing the racquetball courts with eight dedicated pickleball courts, a pavilion with seating areas and a pedestrian entrance from the NE 16th Avenue crosswalk. There will also be a re-routing of the multi-purpose trail for ADA accessibility and code-required changes to the park’s stormwater management basins among other renovations.
