Gainesville brewers put on a show to announce drive thru service

Three rubber boot-wearing brewers from First Magnitude Brewing Company in Gainesville have entertained hundreds of thousands of viewers with a performance they shared on social media on March 26th.

The 15-second-long video features Chief Brand Officer Simon McClung, Cellar Assistant Jamison Maahs and Lead Brewer Eric Dreyer as they jog into the frame and do some fancy crisscross footwork while spraying “disinfectant” all about. The video is backed by the song “Blinding Lights” by the artist The Weeknd.

“We riffed off of some popular Tik Tok videos that use that same sound clip and made it brewery centric,” McClung said, and then he shared it on social media.

By April 1st, the video garnered more than 230,000 views and 800 comments from viewers who were uplifted by the show.

“This is exactly what I needed today (besides whatever beer you’re making)! Thanks from MI for keeping spirits up during all this!, commented Kate Page all the way from Michigan.

As restaurants and businesses in Alachua County adapted to an emergency stay-at-home order, restaurants shifted their service to take out and delivery only.

The video was a way for First Magnitude, which opened in 2012, to have fun with their announcement.

“Our clean drive-thru is almost certainly the safest way to purchase beer in town,” the Facebook announcement reads. “Added bonus, if you drive-thru during the week, it’s a like a brewery zoo and you can watch our team hard at work brewing and packaging your favorite craft brews. Get lucky, and you might just see them dancing too!”

McClung assures that staff maintains six feet from your vehicle to take an order, place beer in customers’ cars while they pay at a table that is six feet away from anyone else.

“We’re open 12-7 p.m. every day,” McClung said.

And from Facebook, customers can click “Shop Now” to make an order or they can head to fmbrewing.com and tap “See Menu and Order” to place orders ahead of time for pick-up at the brewery.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep our staff and community safe while still providing you with your favorite craft beer,” McClung said.

“The drive-thru is a hit!” he added. “People really love the unique experience and, of course, the cleanliness! We may need to find a way to keep it going.
