A community information session for improvements at Tom Petty Park is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8.
The city of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the Wild Spaces & Public Places program will hold the session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on May 8 at the Library Partnership Branch (912 NE 16th Ave.).
The planned upgrades will include:
- Removing existing racquetball courts
- Adding eight dedicated pickleball courts
- Seating areas with pavilion and site furnishings
- A pedestrian entrance from the NE 16th Avenue crosswalk
- Re-routing the multipurpose trail for ADA accessibility
- Renovating and enlarging the restrooms
- Upgrades to the landscaping
- Code-required modifications to the park’s stormwater management basins.
