Chiefland teen dies in collision with semi

A 16-year-old Chiefland girl was killed Tuesday morning when her sedan collided with a tractor-trailer parked on US Highway 19 in Fanning Springs.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 56-year-old Tampa man driving a tractor-trailer was parked facing northbound in the northbound right outside travel lane on US Highway 19 at NW 160th Street at 9:03 a.m. when the Chiefland teen, driving her sedan northbound on US Highway 19, was unable to slow down or stop for the tractor-trailer.

The Chiefland driver collided with the rear end of the tractor-trailer, which was improperly parked and blocking the right lane of travel.

Emergency responders transported the Chiefland teen to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

That is a terrible way to die. Can you imagine you’re al happy and thriving and then the worst pain and feeling of dying. Bless her dear Jesus. I’m so overwhelmed that I can barely write this. K. Beasley
